Active Learning Approach
During Primary and Lower Secondary Education children form new relationships, establish connections and gain fresh insight and knowledge. These crucial years build a strong foundation for future academic growth and personal development.
At NIRA International School we believe in a stimulating, active learning approach that emphasises critical thinking and problem-solving skills. We recognise the importance of encouraging curiosity and love of learning, therefore, we aim to create an educational experience that is meaningful, relevant and enjoyable for each of our students, enabling them to become lifelong learners.
A Comprehensive Program
Our comprehensive learning program combines the globally celebrated Cambridge Curriculum with the Cambodian National Curriculum. This thorough and inclusive methodology, not only fosters cultural awareness and understanding, it also presents endless possibilities for our learners. It ensures that our students have the freedom and flexibility to determine their own path in future years, whether that includes higher education locally or a journey overseas. This gives NIRA ISC families peace of mind.
Complex Range of Learning Areas
We offer a vibrant and challenging curriculum that incorporates a complex series of learning areas in order to cultivate the skills and knowledge that our students require to continue to reach and surpass their goals.
Our specialist teachers combine efforts to deliver sophisticated programs in a diverse range of subjects, these include English, Mathematics, Science, Khmer, Chinese, French, Computing, Physical Education, Music and Arts.
In addition to this, NIRA ISC is committed to incorporating consistent and reliable assessments in our core subjects. This supports teachers, learners and parents alike, to accurately monitor student progress and evaluate performance. As a result, we are able to work together to tailor instruction to learning needs.
The Cambridge international curriculum sets a global standard for education, and is recognized by universities and employers worldwide. Our curriculum is flexible, challenging and inspiring, culturally sensitive yet international in approach. Cambridge students develop an informed curiosity and a lasting passion for learning. They also gain the essential skills they need for success at university and in their future careers.
Cambridge programmes combine an emphasis on mastering subjects in depth with the development skills for study and work in the future. We value deep subject knowledge as well as the conceptual understanding that helps students make links between different aspects of a subject. We also encourage students to develop higher order thinking skills – problem solving, critical thinking, independent research, collaboration and presenting arguments. These are transferable skills that will last a lifetime, preparing students for their future lives. They also make learning enjoyable and rewarding.
In order to personalize learning for each child, our teachers continuously assess each child’s knowledge and understanding of the concepts taught. As facilitators to your child’s education our role is to know what they know, understand and can apply at different stages in the learning process.
Our ongoing assessments include personal reading assessments, phonic and spelling assessments all using internationally benchmarked tests, as well as ongoing maths diagnostics and writing tasks.
Inquiry-based learning is active learning that starts by posing questions, problems or scenarios—rather than simply presenting established facts or portraying discrete areas of knowledge. Learners will identify and research issues and questions to develop their knowledge and understanding. They will syntheses what they have discovered, make connections to prior learning, draw conclusions, take action and move forward with increased confidence.
We know that children are creative and naturally motivated to learn. When encouraged to inquire, children retain their passion to explore and extend their understanding, knowledge and skills. This involves children reflecting on all aspects of their learning; academic, physical and social development. Our aim is to foster the development of the whole child and we provide strong support for this.
In Primary School, we learn both in class and out. The school is designed to have flexible spaces that can be adapted to suit the learning taking place.
Specialist rooms such as Music room, IT room and Arts room ensure that your children have the very best resources to succeed. This gives children the flexibility to learn in groups, pairs or as individuals.
Beyond the classroom, we have an open green space with a fully equipped playground, sport complex and a swimming pool. There is a library for learners. They will have spaces to collaborate, areas to present and share their work, and of course cozy nooks to read.
School Trips are designed to provide children with new experiences outside the classroom, which enhance and extend their learning. These life changing experiences offer alternative educational opportunities, such as outward bound challenges and community service.
